Abstract
This study identified the relationship between the level of communication, social participation, happiness, and general characteristics of people with developmental disabilities and explored the relationship between variables. Using data from the first to third years of the second wave Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled (PSED), in addition to the mediation analysis of the autoregressive cross-lagged modeling was used to examine the relationship of major variables longitudinally. The result showed that, first, the social participation and happiness of the people with developmental disabilities were relatively low, and the level of communication, social participation and happiness differed according to the general characteristics of people with developmental disabilities. Second, the level of communication, social participation and happiness of people with developmental disabilities were analyzed to have autoregressive effects. In other words, the level of communication has a positive effect on social participation over time, and social participation has also shown a longitudinal influence on happiness. Finally, social participation in the longitudinal relationship between the level of communication and happiness of the developmental disabled has been identified as having the mediating effect. Based on this, we propose discussions and follow-up research to improve the happiness of people with developmental disabilities.
